What We Do

The Grangegorman Area-Based Childhood (ABC) programme is delivered by a consortium of 27 organisations from the north west inner city and is led by the Early Learning Initiative. Consortium organisations include local schools, pre-schools, crèches, community organisations, as well as statutory agencies including HSE and Tusla.

ABC Grangegorman consists of a number of evidence-informed programme interventions and initiatives under five key themes:

  • Multidisciplinary Team of Play and Art Therapists and Family Support Workers
  • Family Support, including the Parent Child+ Programme
  • Early Literacy and Development, including the Doodle Den Programme
  • Training, Capacity Building, Research and Supports for Infant Child Mental Health
  • Antenatal and early infancy support
  • Integration and Support to support our diverse community

The first tranche of funding ran from 2015-2017. The programme was evaluated in 2017 and a sustainability research process followed in 2018, the culmination of which was an interagency action plan for children and young people which aims to guide the future activities of the consortium.

In 2015-2017 only, the ABC Programme ran two upskilling initiatives: Level 6 Childcare Programme and Level 7 Aistear and Siolta Childcare Programme for pre-school and crèche staff in the area. From 2015-2020, a ‘Referral Pathways’ sub-group worked to improve interagency working in terms of referrals and transitions to different settings and provide non-formal upskilling.
